Shackelford, McKinley & Norton, LLP Dallas aviation partner Greg Reigel recently spoke with the State Bar of Wisconsin about the DOT’s recent Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Dec. 11 Federal Register (the “ANPRM”) addressing airline passenger rights.
Designed to address the disruptions in travel and costs/expenses incurred by passengers resulting from flight cancellations and/or delays, the ANPRM seeks comments on requirements that may be imposed upon airlines to provide some compensation and/or recourse in those situations. But will the ANPRM result in regulatory changes?
In light of the “bipartisan unhappiness with the airlines and the air travel experience,” Mr. Reigel stated that “the politics for change are there.” As a result, although the rulemaking process moves slowly, Mr. Reigel thinks “it will keep moving forward, but I don’t know at what pace.”
