DALLAS – Shackelford, McKinley & Norton litigation partner Martha Hofmeister has been selected the 2022 recipient of the Dallas Bar Association’s Al Ellis Award for Community Involvement.
This honor recognizes an attorney who is active and passionate about the betterment and improvement of the community at a local, state or national level, and who sets an example of excellence and compassion in community service by going beyond the profession’s expectations. First presented in 2019, Ms. Hofmeister is the fourth recipient of the award.
Active in numerous professional and community organizations, she has served as the director of the DBA and Dallas Bar Foundation’s annual “entertaining, hilarious, and often irreverent” Bar None variety show since its inception in 1986. Under her guidance, the program has raised more than $2.1 million for diversity scholarships at three North Texas law schools – SMU’s Dedman School of Law, UNT Dallas College of Law, and Texas A&M School of Law.
In 2020, Ms. Hofmeister became just the third lawyer in the U.S. – and the first in Texas – to be admitted to the prestigious Commercial Law Group, an international consortium of commercial law firms. She has served on the local, district, and international levels as an officer, director, and committee chair for Altrusa International, Inc., and has served as legal advisor to Altrusa International Foundation for more than a dozen years. She also served as President of the William “Mac” Taylor Jr. 112th American Inn of Court and is a past president and trustee of the Foundation of the Federal Bar Association.
