Shifa Abuzaid is an associate in the commercial litigation practice group at Shackelford, McKinley & Norton, LLP’s Houston office. Prior to joining Shackelford, Shifa was involved in litigating complex insurance coverage issues and disputes. Shifa has prior experience in mediation and settlement negotiation for a wide variety of civil matters ranging from disputes between self-represented parties to contested matters between large corporations. Before entering private practice, Shifa clerked for the Honorable Robert G. Wilson in the New Jersey Superior Court. During her time as a clerk, Shifa was recognized for successfully settling the highest number of cases among her peers within the civil division.
Ms. Abuzaid served as a judicial intern and extern for the Honorable William I. Arbuckle in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Ms. Abuzaid earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Houston and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Penn State Law at University Park in State College, Pennsylvania. She received concentrations Intellectual Property, Energy & Environmental Law, and Law, Science & Technology as part of her law degree.
During law school, Ms. Abuzaid was a co-founder of the Muslim Legal Society which went on to earn the distinction of Student Organization of the Year for the 2019 academic year. During her time at Penn State Law, Ms. Abuzaid competed in mock trial tournaments, participated in the Legal-Tech Virtual Lab, provided pro bono legal services to clients through the Intellectual Property Clinic, and was appointed to serve on Penn State Law’s Law and Equity Committee.
